Aesir : In Old Norse, an Aesir is the term denoting a member of the principal groups of gods of the pantheon of Norse paganism. They include many of the major figures, such as Odin, Frigga, Thor, Baldr and Tyr.

Asgard : The land where reside the gods.

Garm : The dog of Hel, the ruler of Helheim.

Hel : Loki's daughter, Hel rules the realm of the dead. She is the main villain of our story. Hel is also the name of the kingdom of the dead.

Idun's Apple : In Norse Mythology, Idun's apples are a symbol of fertility and the secret of the gods' eternal youth.

Jotuns : A Jotun is a giant in Norse mythology, a member of a race of nature spirits with superhuman strength, described as sometimes standing in opposition to the races of the tribes of the Aesir and Vanir, although they frequently mingle or intermarry with these.

Loki : Hel's father, Loki is a mischievous character in Norse mythology.

Midgard : The land where the humans live.

Nidhogg : Nidhogg is a dragon who eats the roots of the world tree, Yggdrasil. He is one of the game's bosses.

Norns : In Norse Mythology, the three Norns draw water from the Well of Urd and pour it, along with the sand that lies around it, over Yggdrasil to prevent its branches from rotting.

Odin : Chief god in Norse mythology and ruler of Asgard, land of the gods.

Skuld : The Norn that represents the future.

Ragnarok : In Norse mythology, Ragnarok refers to a series of major events including a great battle foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Freyr, Heimdall, and the Jotun Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world will resurface, new and fertile, the surviving gods will meet, and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors.

Ratatoskr : In Norse mythology, Ratatoskr is a squirrel who runs up and down the world tree Yggdrasil to carry messages between the unnamed eagle, perched atop Yggdrasil, and the dragon Nidhogg, who dwells beneath the roots of the tree. He is one of the game's bosses.

Thor : Son of Odin and god of thunder, Thor is the hero of our story.

Urd : The Norn that represents fate and the past.

Valhalla : The Norse mythology equivalent of paradise.

Vanir : In Norse mythology, the Vanir are a group of gods associated with fertility, wisdom, and the ability to see the future.

Verdandi : The Norn that represents the present.

Well of Urd : From this well, the Norns draw water that they then pour over Yggdrasil to make sure that its branches do not rot.

Yggdrasil : The world tree (Tree of Life) that binds the 9 worlds around it together.
